Sound reduction products are more prevalent than ever in multi story residential and commercial buildings. In addition to the requirements of a building owner, municipalities and other local governments are now requiring builders and contractors to achieve minimum sound abatement standards. Most standards for sound abatement are based on laboratory and field tests. The tests measure two main classifications of sound transmission:
Sound Transmission Class (STC)- A laboratory test value for a floor and ceiling assembly based on sound from airborne noise (stereo, television, conversation)
Impact Insulation Class (IIC)- A laboratory test value for a floor and ceiling assembly based on impact noise (walking or dropping items on the floor). The IIC value can also be measured in the field (FIIC).
PROFLEX sound control underlayments have been tested in both laboratory and field conditions, and have demonstrated superior performance in the reduction of sound from sources as measured by STC and IIC classifications.
